THE KLINIK (B)

The Klinik is an electronic industrial music band from Belgium, originally formed around 1984. Together with Front 242 and The Neon Judgement, The Klinik can be considered as one of the most influential groups from the Belgian electronic/industrial scene.

Formed by analogue synth and electronics wizard Marc Verhaeghen in 1982 and soon after joined by Dirk Ivens (Absolute Body Control, Dive, Sonar). Later they joined forces with two other bands, "Absolute Body Control" (Dirk Ivens and Eric van Wonterghem), and "The Maniacs" (Sandy Nys) to form one "super group", the "Absolute Controlled Clinical Maniacs". This rather unwieldy name was soon dropped in favour of the shorter name "The Klinik" and really took off in the mid eighties. After the release of one of their main artifacts, the album ‘Sabotage’, Nys soon left the band to form "Hybryds", followed in 1987 by van Wonterghem, leaving The Klinik as the "classic" duo of Dirk Ivens and Marc Verhaeghen.

The Klinik soon made a name for themselves with their cold and harsh EBM sound and their live shows, where both Ivens and Verhaeghen performed with their heads wrapped in gauze, wearing long black leather coats. Ivens' hissing vocals and minimalist lyrics were complemented by Verhaeghen's synthesizer skills and distorted trumpet playing (the latter giving the music a slightly feverish sound).

In 1991 after the album "Time", musical differences became too big and both members Dirk and Marc concentrated mainly on their solo carriers.

The Klinik reunited in 2003 to play the renowned BIMFEST and soon many more festival appearances followed on which they performed the songs from the "golden" 1985-1991 era in a truly impressive way.

The Klinik members since 2009 are Dirk Ivens (Voice/Lyrics), Marc Verhaeghen (Music/Instruments) and Peter Mastbooms aka BORG (Visuals and Video Images) backed up with Eric van Wonterghem for live-mixing.

Because of health problems, Marc Verhaegen is unable to join The Klinik live on stage these days and will be concentrating on creating new The Klinik music in his studio.

On March 1st 2013 The Klinik released a new studio album (first since 22 years!) 'Eat Your Heart Out!' onOut Of Line Records.

The klinik played the BIMFEST already in 2003 and 2008 and this resulted twice in a SOLD OUT festival! Don't say we didn't warn you!
